REGENERATION 2010 & REGENERATION IN IRELAND
Hello folks!
Hope everyone is off to a great start here in 2010! We're looking to put together a strong bill for REGEN 2010, got a bunch of middle type acts that are really great including one who never toured the U.S. during their first go around in the 80's! Trying to finalize a headliner and get things moving.
IN THE MEANTIME, we have confirmed 3 shows in IRELAND for a Regeneration Tour package! BELINDA CARLISLE, HOWARD JONES, T'PAU, and CHINA CRISIS perform
April 30 – GLENEAGLE HOTEL - KILLARNEY
May 1 – ROYAL THEATRE - CASTLEBAR
May 2 - THE HUB - KILKENNY

Dead or Alive have announced plans for a summer tour and are taking offers, just what you needed - another possible middle act...

New idea/direction!
As you all know, it has been extremely difficult this year putting together a bill that gets anyone excited, espeically the promoters who need to put up the money to present it in their towns. Recent developments: For a short while Roy Hay of Culture Club had us excited about a possible Culture Club reunion but he is going to go and discuss it with George in May, too late for this summer, possibly for next year. Then I tried working something out with Tears For Fears agent at CAA for them to do the tour but they passed on doing it instead taking a tour of their own for a couple weeks this summer, generally in smaller venues and probably for less money than they would have made. I'm still happy with The Alarm on the bill with an opener like Modern English, China Crisis, etc. but need another act to top it off.... I may have found something that will work, at least in my mind it does. I will know in the next couple of days. It's not new wave, it's not British, but it is 80's/90's alternative and they were quite popular in the day.
Will let you all know as soon as it looks good.

Rick,
Your ideas are in exactly the right place with your choices of Culture Club & Tears For Fears. Too bad it didn't work out. I enjoyed the shows the past two years and look forward to it again this summer especially with The Alarm. Keep up the hard work and know that there are fans that appreciate your effort and a fun package tour like this!

80's Rock
Hi Rick
Some people had mentioned the Smithereens on earier posts. Don't know if you got enough inspiration on that idea to look into trying to reach their agent. But I've seen numerous ideas cross this forum and out of all of them I personally think The Smithereens would be the perfect contrast to fill up the seats. Also, didn't hear much about GNuman but this guy's energy lelel is unbelievable and as I'm sure you well know, his later stuff is very HARD edged, yet he still has the synth works underneath. Another perfect contrast to fill the seats.
Just my 3 cents.

Gary Numan
Hey Rick,
Thanks for all the great information. Last years L.A. tour was awesome. I'm excited about this years. I was planning on seeing Gary Numan tonight, but he canceled his L.A. show do to the volcano in Iceland. Do you think he might be available for this summers Regeneration Tour? That would be cool if he was added to the bill.
Thanks,
Frank

I just noticed this show for 9/18/10 in Buffalo on Pollstar.com:
"Hello Yesterday" LaSalle Park
A Flock Of Seagulls
Animotion
Dramarama
Gene Loves Jezebel
Modern English
When In Rome
Thats a pretty good list...is this a different promotion?

Possibles
Have a crew of young people ready to travel for 2010. Have been to both so far. How about Joe Jackson or the Fixx? Both are out touring this year. Hope all carries through for another great show. Human League would always be a good draw.

Re: REGENERATION 2010 & REGENERATION IN IRELAND
Culture Club would be a good choice. They haven't toured here since the late 90's. They are also a great live band and slightly different than some of the other new wave bands that have been on these tours who are more electronic and synthesizer based.
The problem I see with them though is because of George's jail sentence for false imprisonment of an escort he is banned from entering the US and probably wouldn't be able to get a visa.
Also, George is notoriously erratic and difficult to work with. plus he always seems to be in trouble with drugs or other nonsense. He'd probably change his mind about doing a tour while you were trying to get it organized. But maybe if you can deal with Roy who seems more reasonable and down to earth it might work if the work visa issue can be sorted out.
But I wouldn't want you to book them and then have George denied a visa, thereby jeopardizing a possible tour for the other acts as well.

Re: REGENERATION 2010 & REGENERATION IN IRELAND
Also I think in general, I would enjoy these type of tours more if you had fewer more well known acts who did longer sets instead of so many more obscure acts doing short sets. For instance back in the 90's, Culture Club did a tour with the Human League and Howard Jones which was great. I think three acts like that is a good number. For I've noticed in the UK on their Here and Now Tour they will have 6 or 7 acts which is way too much.
I also don't think the sets should be limited to just hit singles. They should be allowed to do new songs as well as album tracks from their older albums. If you are a big enough fan to go see these acts, most likely you own the older albums and like more songs than just the singles. I think fans do want to hear new music as long as the new songs are a natural evolution from what the artist did before and makes sense. Obviously, if an act became famous as a pop/dance group, fans don't want to hear them doing new heavy metal or rap songs. But if they do new songs in the genre that made them famous fans will love it.

Praying for Regeneration!!!
My friend Mark and I have a yearly date for for the tour, had no idea it was so difficult to put together a line up. Seriously, the most fun I've had in years. There are a so many acts that seem like they could use the exposure here in the states, but hard to tell if their UK careers are thriving from here..
So instead I'm just glad there is a tour in the works! I would love to see OMD or Oingo Boingo, Culture Club would be the best, but damn if Boy George isn't a pain in the *ss. We really enjoyed Human League, Berlin and ABC, I would go just to see them again.
Other names that come up for me ar Crowded House, A-HA, Adam Ant, The Clash, Devo, Dead or Alive, Simply Red, Faith No More, The Cars, The Pet Shop Boys, The Psychedelic Furs... So many that I was a too young to see in the actual 80's. It would be like a dream come true.
Well I'll keep praying.
