2010 Regeneration Tour
I would like to see these bands perform:
The Blow Monkeys (Reunited as of last year).
Scritti Politti (Not the original line-up, but Green still records under that name)
Paddy McAloon/Prefab Sprout (New record out this fall. Doubt American audiences are familiar with this band)
Johnny Hates Jazz
Wow! What a line-up!

With all due respect and he has earned it-calling Joe Jackson a bit crumudgeonly is like calling Rick a bit of a Yankees fan!

Soft rock theme.
What does crumudgeononly mean? Have you ever heard of the Regeneration Tour ever having soft rock groups? I would have considered Tommy Tutone soft rock...

Trio

With all due respect - and he too has earned it - if Rick has had dealings with Joe, and says he's a bit curmudgeonly, he probably knows of what he speaks. Some artists are like that. Some just aren't all happy and smiley all the time. David Byrne? Elvis Costello?

Admin wrote:Simple Minds - Will not play on an 80's bill as they consider themselve's to be "current" as they never went away and have made records throughout the years. Also, they still want to tour like they are at the top of the charts here, I tried putting together a headline tour for this fall for them, got great offers especially considering the numbers they drew on their last headline tour in the U.S. though there were not as many offers as they wanted, some promoters had lost too much with them a few years back and would not make an offer for them again. In the end they said they could not afford to do the shows I was setting up as they needed seperate buses for band and crew, 5 star hotels, business/1st class flights, etc. when what they really needed to do here to build themselves back up was to tour cheaply, do small venues, sell them out and create a buzz. Unfortunately we decided to part ways about a week ago so they could have another agency try and get them more money! Unfortunate.... I do love them and wish I could convince them to do whatever it takes to get back to the states but after 30 years thye are too set in their ways.
Seems to me Jimbo and the boys could use a reality check! I'm sure their current stuff sounds fine, but I haven't heard anything from them since 1987, when I bought a copy of "Live In The City Of Light" (which I still listen to and love).
If they were still selling out stadia and arenas like U2 and Duran Duran, it would be one thing, but ABC, The Human League, and other Regeneration Tour acts are regularly producing new material, but thank goodness have not been so full of themselves that they ignore their American fans. I think we might have contributed almost as much to their success as their UK fans.

Keeping Hope for 2010
As it looks like a fall tour is not in the cards, I keep hope alive for a Regeneration Tour 2010. How may it look:
REGENERATION TOUR 2010
Kajagoogoo with Limal
Heaven 17
Men Without Hats
Dead or Alive
China Crisis
Alternatives: Alphaville, Go West, Kim Wilde, Altered Images, Visage
Best of luck Rick, I hope you try this again!

Hi! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I'm having a real hard time coming up with a lineup for 2010 that will inspire promoters to purchase the show and fans to buy tickets. We've bandied about lots of names and all are great middle acts... Kajagoogoo, Alphaville, China Crisis, are all still alive in our minds but all the others you mentioned I'd not hold my breath on. i had a great conversation with Mike Peters of The Alarm a week ago after running into him in September here. He'd love to do it and i can envision putting together a more rock-oriented show around them rather than the more new wave-y ones of past but I'm still stuck trying to put a strong bill around them. The problem is finding acts of that era who have not been playing around the states on a regular basis or preferably someone who has not toured in a decade or two. I'd love to have a line-up together before Christmas.
Rick
Re: REGENERATION TOUR 2010 IDEAS?
Any chance OMD would consider being a headliner. I think OMD & Kaja together with some support from China Crisis & Alphaville would be an exiting bill for fans of the era (none of the 4 have played the US in years), not sure about promoters. Thanks for considering doing this again, hope it can come together - jpw

80s New Wave Rock Live
also.
I love Mike Peters, having seen him solo and with the Alarm - I would have to say that a New Wave Rock tour may be a really good idea.
could include any of the following:
The Alarm/Mike Peters
Spear of Destiny/Kirk Brandon
Flesh For Lulu
Gene Loves Jezebel (Jay Ashton & original members version)
The Cult
Mission UK
Stray Cats
The Damned/Captain Sensible
Dead Men Walking
Midnight Oil
Mission Of Burma
Wall of Voodoo/Stan Ridgway
Pere Ubu
Devo

Re: REGENERATION TOUR 2010 IDEAS?
If China Crisis and The Alarm were willing to do the show, that would be awesome! Unless I missed it, I didn't read if OMD was a possibility or not. I saw the post where Rick said they were going to be touring this fall, but if they came to Las Vegas, I didn't hear about it. Did they tour?

Re: REGENERATION TOUR 2010 IDEAS?
I've been keeping my fingers crossed for any news regarding a 2010 tour.
I'm praying that Go West, Roxette, and The Outfield get included on this tour and that it comes through Hampton Roads, Virginia.
*still crossing fingers*
