Regeneration Tour 2009 - Page 3 Empty BRING BACK A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS!

Post  AFOS_RULES Tue Sep 16, 2008 8:57 pm

I was LUCKY enough to catch the Tour at the Wolf Trap outside of Washington D.C.

Let me be completely honest with you all:

A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS were, BY FAR, the BEST band at the gig.

They also were the ONLY REAL BAND!

All the other acts were OK.

ABC, thanks to Martin, were stellar.

But, the TRUTH IS: ONLY A Flock Of Seagulls played LIVE!

All the other acts used back tracking, which is pre-recorded music.

I have seen almost every line up AFOS has had since Mike started the band.

I LOVED all the others, but this is the BEST line up AFOS has ever had.

Besides Mike, Joe Rodriguez is the longest tenured member in the bands history. He is a fantastic guitarist, and the best the band has ever had. And I am a fan of Reno and Ed...but Joe is simply superior, and truly amazing. An innovator who is one of best guitarists I've ever heard live! A couple of years ago, they happened to be blessed to acquire the services of drummer Mike Brahm, and bassist Pando.

I happened upon the second show this lineup ever did in NYC.

I was BLOWN AWAY! These guys are incredible. Mike Brahm is one of the best drummers I ever have heard live , and that includes Neal Pert. Pando is also probably the best bassist the band has ever had, which says a lot because Frank Maudsley is a great artist.

Regeneration 2009 would be WISE to ask AFOS to join them next year.

IF they do, and the band is able, I suggest a MUCH LONGER set given to the band.

People go to concerts to hear ]LIVE music, not canned noise. We can buy CD's for that effect.

It was OBVIOUS that A Flock Of Seagulls were easily the best band at Wolf Trap.

Live music blows away recorded music, and with this being the tightest and most talented incarnation EVER on AFOS = IT IS A NO BRAINER!

BRING THEM BACK!

I also suggest to all people, who love good music, to catch A Flock Of Seagulls live at any opportunity as they tour the world. Their new material is fantastic! "Little White Bird" is one of the best songs the band has EVER done!

Mike Score is a BRILLIANT artist, and you should make every effort to go see the band.

Get your local venues to make EVERY effort to book them!

Actually having been backstage and out at the soundboard for about 8 of the shows I can tell you this is totally untrue for Belinda, ABC and Naked Eyes. Regarding THL I'm not sure if anything was programmed in the laptop that was onstage but I know the majority of the music they played came from the players and instruments on stage. That's a totally ridiculous claim!

I wasn't backstage, or at the sound board, and I was only at the Las Vegas show because I was simply a member of the audience. However, I have been in pro audio for 26 years, and I'm quite sure Admin is speaking the truth. It was pretty obvious to anyone that has ever worked concerts, or listened to these bands' recordings, that the instruments were being played live. I have no idea how someone could come up with a whacko idea like that, unless of course it's because they thought that all of the bands except A Flock of Seagulls sounded too good!

I went to the show in Boston and had a great time. I really think there should be a winter version of the tour. I'm sure there must be a few old "New Wave" acts that would love to travel around to a few inside venues. I know I wouldn't miss it if there was.

Right now we are looking at doing the 2009 Regeneration Tour in May rather than in the summer and do a combination of indoor venues up north and indoor with maybe a few outdoor down south. Hopefully we'll have details sorted on line-up in the next month.

No

Rick aka Admin, attended the Boston show with about 12 friends and we all had an amazing time! ABC and Human League stole the show. Please tell me you'll be back at the Pavillion in beantown? You can't beat an outdoor summer (or as we say in Boston summah) show on the harbor.

As for some of my preferences:

Rick Astley
Howard Jones
Thompson Twins
Squeeze
Gary Numan
OMD
Karen Carpenter
The Fixx
Yaz
Men Without Hats
Men At Work

Can't wait for 2009 lineup and our group will pursue any VIP packages!

We're already speaking to the manager of The Fixx about doing 2009 with us, ABC have indicated interest in returning for 2009. Anyone excited by the thought of Ultravox? I know I am! They are doing a reunion tour in the UK in April, I'm thinking about inviting them to join us in May! How about Katrina from Katrina and The Waves? She's in town this week and wants to meet us about doing the tour.

This would be a nice line up. Maybe to round it out you should bring back back an old 80's local favorite from each of the concert cities to be the opening act (you don't know how much I hated saying that last sentence). A band that isn't still playing the clubs all of the time. Kind of a one and off type of deal. Just a crazy idea, or is it Question

That was an idea I had in the very beginning of the concept for REGENERATION, but to have them playing on a 2nd stage between bands or something.

I think that you could get away with a short set by the local band on the main stage. I bet you could in Boston anyway. I got to the show early and saw the whole Naked Eyes set. It was kind of unfair to him that people were still coming in when he was in the middle of his set.

That was an idea for this past summer when we were doing mostly outdoor venues, this time will likely be mostly indoor theaters so there won't be an opportunity for a 2nd stage anyhow. Will have to see how it all shakes out in the coming weeks.

I guess I need to get a life, but I'm still waiting for news on potential 09' acts?

I keep making up possible lineups. Here's my latest bounce (in performance order):

Yaz
Men Without Hats
Howard Jones
Rick Astley
Men At Work

Don't know who's available, realistic etc., but this would kick ass!
In Boston-YES!

Others:

Gary Numan
Thompson Twins
The Fixx
ABC - encore!
Human League - would welcome them back!

Regeneration Tour 2009 - Page 3 Empty 09 possibilities at this point

Post  Admin Tue Nov 25, 2008 1:00 pm

Well ABC are definitely going to be part of 2009 and it looks like they are going to bring along their friends Heaven 17 and as support Go West. Beyond that there are still a lot of possibilites....I want one more "major" act such as The FiXx or Howard Jones, and another supportng act such as Katrina (of The Waves, I had coffee with her last Friday), Paul Young, Cutting Crew (just got an email from Nick this a.m.), etc.

By the way, for all you Kim wild fanatics out there, I asked Katrina about Kim since they have performed together in the UK Here and Now shows. She said it is unlikely that Kim would want to tour here for any extended period. She is the host of a popular UK gardening TV show and seems to be well set for money.

That's the latest scoop from Regeneration HQ.

Rick,

That's great that ABC will be back. I was listening to 1st Wave on XM/Sirius this morning, and after a Howard Jones tune they said he was touring in 09 with Boy George, Kim Wilde and others. Sounds like someone's trying to duplicate Regen?

Still lots of greats acts to pursue.

I saw The Fixx with Psychedelic Furs & The Alarm at Avalon (Boston) a couple of years or so ago. I would love to see The Fixx in this show.

If only Adam Ant would tour again (not likely to ever happen from what I heard a while ago).

LoverBoy or The Motels ?

Just suggestions

hello again from BOSTON ... Loved the summer show here and yes ABC and HUMAN LEAGUE would be a welcome return to the stage here ( Hopefully the outdoor pavilion again) AND to snag ULTRAVOX for the tour would be amazing..incredible musicians with a terrific catalog of music.. Regarding other people's wish list .. As an electronic musician... I am HUGE Gary Numan fan/follower and Gary plays many shows still across the UK/world still to this day having done countless new volumes of new music since his "CARS" days...so what I have read he would not be into a retro sort of tour.

Regeneration Tour 2009 - Page 3 Empty The latest for all you "insiders"

Post  Admin Thu Dec 04, 2008 1:10 pm

For all of you who are checking in , the latest news is that I'm talking with Berlin starring Terri Nunn to possibly join us for 2009 so the bill would be ABC, Heaven 17, Berlin and Go West. I'll hopefully have everything sorted out by tomorrow, The Fixx are still in contention on this as well.

In other news, I've been in touch with Alphaville (Forever Young, Big in Japan) and though I don't think they bring enough to the table for our 2009 tour, I may try to do a few club shows for them here in the U.S. in 2009. Are there fans out there for Alphaville?

Please bring Ultravox or Paul Young. Alphaville is a great idea for an opener and much less seen then the Fixx or Berlin who are both oversaturated by playing every small club and fair in the US for the last decade plus. Heaven 17 and Go West are great additions and good to see ABC return. Now, with ABC (third on the line up for 2008) as the headliner and likely promoting this in smaller theatres, you probably can add some more underground bands such as Apphaville, Visage, Altered Images - bands that fans of the era would love to see- and still fill the venues-you may be pleasantly surprised. Keep up the good work and try to avoid bands such as Berlin, The Fixx, AFOS, English Beat, Dramarama and others that simply play the US every year anyway - JPW

I heard from their manager Chris (who used to manage them in the 80's when I booked them) and he said they are not reforming for the purpose of being a band again, only doing the UK tour to promote a new best of CD and a box set both to be released only in the UK as well as to clean up with a quick payday for the UK tour. He said it would not be cost effective for them to come to the US to tour with no product to promote here.
